Please and Thank you

Just be polite... that's all I ask for, really. We've been struggling with a few issues with the kids lately (I feel like I may have written that before...) and one of the biggest ones is just common courtesy. When your mother speaks to you, acknowledge her presence, would you? And instead of "I need some milk; get it now," I would love to hear "please" the first time around. It might just be wishful thinking but I've got to believe that my children can show respect for us and for others. Anyway, manners was the subject of FHE tonight. (This is at least the second time we've had the lesson.) We all picked a few phrases that we're really going to work on. I know that it starts with the parents first. And I think we really do try. But after asking someone nicely to do something six times, the patience begins to wear a little thin. So of course when the disobedience and lack of respect happen again, say two minutes later, I may be slightly less patient. Maybe.

Anyway, we talked a lot about how the example starts at the top, with miss S and on down. By the time it gets to the T man, the attitude is not always pretty. I'm sure we'll revisit the issue tomorrow, the next day, and maybe even a refresher course next Monday night. :)

This seems to be a common request in our house as well. K1 has told the kids he will no longer respond to them unless they ask nicely for something. I will admit that somedays are better then others and it makes me smile when they ask nicely.

I am so tired to asking my kids to say please, and them saying please in the meanest nrudiest voice because their mad that I'm making them say please. ARGH! Being a mother is hard. The only thing harder is being a good mother

I've been correcting Bailey's pleaseless requests since she started talking, and it's still not kicking in. I feel your pain.

Sometimes I find it helpful to say, "Could you freaking say PLEASE!" Love, unity and respect are summed up in this snappy little phrase. ;-)

Sometimes I feel like we're living parallel lives, Tennille. Parallel lives.

Tennille, I owe you an apology...I'm new at the whole blog thing, my wife mainly does it...anyway when I clicked on what I thought was your blog, it was just your blogger profile...hence thinking it was a empty blog. Your blog far surpasses what I will ever do.

No apologies necessary. Now, if I could just find out the URL for your blog, then we'd be set...

The Backyardigans have an episode on saying please and thank you. Whenever my kids forget I start singing the song...Please and Tahnk you is the secret of the nile, please and thank you gets you positivly anything you want with a smile....My singing is bad enough that I ma starting to hear the words used more often, but I still have the song fresh in my memory.
