Hot Dogs

Yep, you read that right. We're entering into the season of summer, and therefore, the season of hot dogs.

I have always loved hot dogs. Of course, as a woman, I've had to keep this love quiet—because they're not cool, right? Well, I don't care anymore. I am proudly proclaiming my love for hot dogs.

Every BBQ during the summer, I have to have one, because it's the only socially acceptable time for me to do so. "It's summer. I might as well have one!" I have to be careful because if I first eat something "good" like a chicken breast, I'm still unable to pass up the hot dog, and my meat total for the evening can quickly get a little ridiculous.

Other times of the year, I sometimes get weird looks if I say I like hot dogs. "They're sickening, you know. How could you eat those things? Do you know what they're made of?"

"I was just joking, seriously. I hate them, too."

But I don't. I love them.

I remember eating them as a kid for lunch... with milk. (Yes, it's kind of a gross combination, but at the time, it was great.)

I am a purist, though, when it comes to toppings. I'm strictly a ketchup fan, although I wouldn't say no to a chili cheese dog if you offered. Mmm, chili cheese dog.

As much as women try to deny it, there are a lot more of us than you might think. A's cousin and I used to work together. She, too, loves hot dogs. When another girl started working there, we thought she was great, but after seeing her buying sub sandwiches and other healthy fare for lunch, we thought there was no way that she would be a fellow HD lover. One day, we asked her. Imagine our surprise to find out we were wrong.

Do you love them, too? (And if you don't, please keep it to yourself, mmm, kay?)

You are too funny cause I don't think I have cared that people snub the hot dog lover. I know mom will buy a pack of hot dogs and feel like we need to come over and eat them right away because she might die if she ate one. I however share your love for them and get this ....we buy the Costco size package of hot dogs and buns for the summer. It's just too easy to go out and grill and always add some hot dogs for the kids which of course always get eaten by K and me too. I'm also a purist too. Ketchup all the way baby!

mmm..i wonder if we are related?

I used to be a ketchup purist, but now I'm totally on to mustard. Good spicy brown mustard. My brother introduced us to Nathan's hot dogs and they are soooo good. We grill them up, top them with shredded cheese and some chopped pickles (only claussens) and mustard. So good. When I was pregnant, I'd eat them like a candy bar - nothing on them - no bun, no toppings, just into my mouth. And yes, I know what they're made of: deliciousness.

I am a big hot dog lover and can relate on the one or two while my other food is still on the BBQ. I even love the Costco ones! Thanks for making it cool to admit that
:-)

I'm not big on hot dogs, but I'm a closet bologna sandwich lover. Is that close enough? After all, I think bologna is just a hot dog flattened out with a rolling pin, isn't it?? :)

You must be leaving for Orlando soon... I will surely miss you, my friend! I am feeling sad that my 4Life peeps are going to convention without me... e-mail me when you get back and give me all the details! LYG... K.

Mmmmmm. I love hot dogs too. When was 10 I could sit down and eat 3 of them:) Roy and I love J Dawgs. As for all those people who say "do you know what they're made of?" I say there are thousands of things that our bodies come in contact with that are just as "unpure" as hot dogs.

Mmm, nice and browned off the grill? I'll pass up the hamburgers or chicken any day.

I am totally laughing. I love this post. I am such a huge hot dog fan. It just goes hand in hand with summer. They are so great right off the grill. I usually buy the all beef hot dogs, then I don't feel so bad about what might be in them. Plus I think they taste the best. I love katsup, mustard, and relish. I need to go grill some up now.

I LOVE HOT DOGS!!! There, I said it. B hates them, but even he can't resist at a Yankees game (it helped that I insisted we could not have a baseball experience without a hotdog, and the fact that they're kosher in NYC). Anyhow, I don't care what they are made of. They are just that good. And btw, I think "purists" would say its mustard-only, not ketchup. :)
