Recently, I've fallen in love again with frosting graham crackers (although, I don't think I ever really fell out of love with them.) If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you had a sad childhood indeed. Frosting graham crackers come about when your mom has frosting left over from a birthday or other holiday. She spreads the frosting on one graham cracker square, slaps the other side on the top, and voila! A delightful and tasty treat.Lately, I've even gone so far as to make double the amount of yummy frosting, so we can have extra amounts of deliciousness afterwards.
Eating these with my kids after lunch makes me think of a hundred different times when I did the same thing growing up. I'm so glad that my kids can grow up with some of my favorite childhood memories.
Angie's frosting
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
Cream together shortening and butter, then add vanilla. Add sugar, one cup at a time. Add milk until light and fluffy.

I guess I am in the sad childhood category because I never knew of this tasty treat until a few weeks ago when a friend of mine brought some to the kids baseball game. I love how the frosting softens the cracker just enough. It really is delightful ;).
(BTW, I see by the date that you are up early as am I - I'm actually working - though taking a breather and checking blogs...)
To give credit where it is due, it's not really my recipe, it is the Wilton Butter Cream frosting recipe from the instructions that came with the Barbie cake mold I was so foolish as to buy and actually make for Miss C several birthdays ago.
I am glad that my children love this family treat as much as I do, but as our family grows, it means that the treats just don't last as long as I would like--even though I double the frosting. Perhaps I taught them too much love?
love those! brings back great memories.
Oh my mom used to make that for us all the time! Definately a favorite treat here. Can't wait to try the frosting recipe
Hey! I'm on a diet. :)
No kidding!! They are the best! I actually had some just the other day! We made cupcakes and I had extra frosting so I slapped it on a whole package of graham crackers. We were in heaven for a number of days. (I tried to not inhale them all in one sitting).
Miss you guys!

yea it's a little sad how excited I get about leftover frosting too....and I make sure it's pretty colors that will look good with the graham crackers....yum..yum!
For my b-day Kyle made this amazing cake..I will post a picture later. But it didn't have THE frosting on it so now I think when I'm up to it I will be making a cake with the frosting!
That sounds really good right now. I haven't had that forever!
