I feel that I would be remiss if I didn't write a short post in memoriam of a truly great man, someone who helped shape my teenage years: John Hughes.
John Hughes, writer/film director all things 80s, died yesterday of a sudden heart attack. And as I look back on all of the wonderful gems he brought to the world, I've had a really nice trip down memory lane. He either wrote, directed, or did both on all of these movies:
Pretty in Pink
Mr. Mom
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Home Alone
Uncle Buck
(plus a ton more)
But the truly best teen movie (and perhaps even the best one period) of all time, was written by John Hughes...
Some Kind of Wonderful
The teen angst, the drama, the boy loves girl/girl doesn't know boy is alive/boy's best friend (also a girl) is secretly in love with him... I spent half my teenage years quoting lines from this movie. And let's not forget... the kiss.
Rest in peace, John Hughes. And thanks for the genius.

Great post! Some Kind of Wonderful is my favorite too! John Hughes definitely knew his audience well and how to connect with them. So many great movies. RIP John Hughes.
Some Kind of Wonderful is my favorite movie of all time! I used to always quote lines from that movie, too. In fact, I actually met the "snotty boyfriend" (can't remember his name in the movie), when I was an extra on a movie in Park City. I was in love :)
Ah...good ol' SKOW!! Gotta love that one! Way too many memories are wrapped up in watching that movie...hmm..I need to find my copy of that!
I too was saddened to hear of his death. I told B last night that we needed to watch The Breakfast Club, just to honor his memory ;).
As your sister, I'm proud that Some Kind of Wonderful is your favorite John Hughes movie. Truly my favorite teen-angsty movie by that brilliant mind! I just wish I'd found my triple E guy. :)
I love Some Kind Of Wonderful. Just got it finally thanks to the five dollar bin at Wal-Mart. Oh the kiss, the kiss. Plus it has a killer soundtrack.
Amen, Sister, John Hughes was a genius, indeed... his iconic fil legacy will never be matched. How can you beat Ferris Bueller, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club... BETTER OFF DEAD?? And, of course, SKOW... there are too many faves. Hopefully TBS or AMC will run a John Hughes marathon, so I can steep in the nostalgia.
It's been a rough summer for us Gen Xers! First Farrah and MJ, now John Hughes. Who's next -- Prince? Molly Ringwald? Enough already!
They do just not make them that good any more. Love the post. I think I need to go rent some of these gems this weekend.
